Glazing Oil / painting instructions

Intended use of the product

Uula Glazing Oil is suitable for old and new untreated wood surfaces and old wood surfaces that have been treated with wood treatments that do not form a hard coating such as doors, floors, window frames and furniture. Suitable as a binder for glazing, graining and decorative colours and also on top of varnish and linseed oil paint if you wish to flatten the gloss grade. Uula Glazing Oil leaves the grains of the wood visible and gives a surface that protects from moisture and dirt. Glazing oil is suitable for dry interior surfaces and for exterior surfaces that are under a cover such as walls and furniture.

Tinting and colours of the product

Uula Glazing Oil is colourless, but it can be tinted according to the most common translucent colour charts. Choose the colour always in the same space and lighting where the painting will be done. The lighting and the gloss level of the paint will affect how the colour is perceived.  In translucent treatments the coarseness of the surface, the type of wood, the previous colour and the painting work will all affect significantly to the end result of the colour. The product can be used as it is without tinting for restoring old furniture and old varnish surfaces, where the Glazing oil is rubbed on the surface with a lint-free cloth and allowed to dry for 4-5 hours.

 Application & conditions

We recommend using a varnish brush, levelling paint brush or a small brush, depending on the material and type of the surface. The surface must be dry and the relative air humidity must be below 80 % and the temperature at least +10°C. The painted surface is tack-free after 5–8 hours and a new coat can be applied approximately after 24 hours.

Painting instructions

Uula Glazing Oil should be stirred thoroughly before and during use.  Mix together enough paint into the same container in order to avoid potential colour variations. Do a test painting with the chosen colour to ensure that the colour is correct. Please note that the correct colour of the paint will not appear until after the surface has dried. Take care of the painting environment and protect untreated surfaces with tape, paper, cardboard or protective plastic.

Preparation:  Clean surface from dust and dirt. Wash dirty surfaces with Uula Washing Agent and for mouldy exterior surfaces use Uula Mould Cleaning Agent according to instructions and let it dry thoroughly before painting.

Colourless treatment:  Apply 1–3 coats of colourless Glazing Oil to untreated surfaces and 2–3 coats to previously treated surfaces. Sand in between and brush off dust.

Coloured treatment: Treat the surface with coloured Glazing Oil 1–2 coats to the desired opaqueness. To increase resistance, colourless Uula Glazing Oil or Uula Boat Varnish can be applied on the surface.
